Laptop Cases and Materials, the Guide to Choosing the Right Type
There are several materials used to make laptop cases, and you will see them in various applications when searching for a case. The materials each have pros and cons for different situations. The most common types of materials are listed below, giving you an idea of which to choose.
The first type is a case made from leather. Leather is a material that comes from animal hides, which are normally a byproduct of the food industry. Durability across brands is generally high, especially when compared to other materials, but still it can vary between brands. Colors and styles vary greatly, especially with today's technology. Cheap version can be mistaken for quality fake leather, but even cheap leather is better than fake leather in durability. You will normally find it as a bag.
Fake leather cases are the second type. These are sometimes referred to as pleather, as they imitate real leather products. They are plastic based, usually made form PVC. They typically boast good water resistance, but different styles of the product have different water resistance levels. The material tends to be pretty light. Durability and quality levels can vary from brand to brand. Fake leather is usually made into a form of a bag.
Another case material is neoprene. This material works well for keeping a fair amount of moisture off your laptop, such as a small spill or a little splash of rain, and has decent padding. Quality is relatively close from brand to brand, but there is some variance. Normally neoprene is used for laptop sleeves.
The fourth one is a cloth case. Cloth cases can be made from natural materials like cotton or canvas, or synthetic like polyester or nylon. These are generally light bags, and provide minimal protection. There are varieties that have coatings on the outside to prevent water from entering. They are normally seen as bags.
The fifth one is a hard plastic case. These are the most durable option, and along with leather tend to last a while. Most are lined, which provide additional protection. They vary from waterproof to water resistant. They are normally seen as bulky cases.
You will want to make sure you understand what you need your case to do to be able to choose the best material. The five materials above all provide good material for laptop cases, and are more or less suitable for particular situations. Researching more about laptop cases to find what is best for you would be advisable before you buy a case.
