How do you really feel about a laptop computer
I would love to go back to my younger generation. The dreaded arrival of a laptop computer makes me insane! What in the world would I do with an electric wording device?
I'm simple. Apparently though, that does not work for my grown children. They feel their mom needs to stop being "technologically ignorant." After much quarrelling, I finally agreed to their purchasing a laptop for me.
The box arrives at my house and I admit, I was overwhelmed. Carefully opening the package, I sat at my kitchen table and held my breath.
Bubble wrap, Styrofoam and instructions fell out as I faced my new, laptop computer. Boy, I could hear the "reek reek reek" of that Psycho movie as my sweaty hands tried to open this technical annoyance.
I felt myself hyperventilating. "How am I going to do this?" I spoke aloud to myself. "I'm a plain country girl. I milk cows, feed chickens, grow gardens, sew clothes, what in the world will I do with this thing!"
I could not breathe. I could not think. "Can I survive this?" I thought frantically. "I am only a woman. I do nothing but, work all day. What makes anyone think I can deal with this monster!"
All of a sudden, I thought of something even more horrible than the laptop computer. I could hear the evil little thing laughing at me! I turned my eyes to see the glowing little devil!
Oh my god, those darn instructions!
I needed to do something to stop the room from spinning! How could I learn to use this little troll box which was giggly wickedly at me! I was becoming afraid this laptop computer might be the reason for my demise!
I wanted to scream, run, throw, spit, cry or anything to stop the turmoil inside me! How was I going to learn to use this scientific demon which I allowed to enter my home! This laptop computer could definitely be the death of me!
Through the fog of wackiness I held my phone to my ear and heard a voice, "Mom?" "Did you get your gift today?" "Do you like how pretty it is?" "It is a fantastic model!" "Is the carrying case the right color?" My child talks a thousand miles a minute!
I opened my phone and heard the voice of my youngest child, "Mom?" "Did your laptop computer come today?" "How does it look?" "Are you getting acquainted with it?" "Do you like the little carrying case?" My child sure can jabber!
"I know you really hate electronics. But, this will help you stay in touch with the family. E-mail, the Internet. I will be down this week to help you understand how to use it and you will learn to love it. Don't worry. I love you. Talk to you soon! Bye."
Maybe, just maybe, I can become friends with this laptop computer, in the long run.
